A student seminar on the topic ‘Migration, Immigration and Socio-Demographic Change in Assam: Current Realities and Future Concerns’ was successfully organized at Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya, on 24th September, 2025 bringing together participants from various colleges and universities. The event focused on themes such as social change, development, and emerging challenges in society, providing a platform for academic discussion and research presentation.
Students from multiple institutions actively participated and presented their research papers before a panel of distinguished judges and academicians. The seminar witnessed engaging discussions, critical insights, and scholarly exchange among participants.
Several groups of students from the Department of Sociology, Jagannath Barooah University presented their research papers at the event. From the UG 4th semester, Darshana Lahon presentaed a paper on the topic ‘Decline of regional Language:The impact of migration over linguistic identity in Assam’. The UG 6th semester presentations included Ankita Bhuyan and Akankhya Riya Saikia on the topic ‘The impact of Population on Cultural Preservation and Identity Politics: A study on the Bodo Community of Assam’. Ritisha Saikia and Joon Sahu on ‘Crossing boarders , shaping Assam: The story of illegal immigrants’. Krishna Chandak and Saujanya Borthakur on ‘Margins of the Brahmaputra: Migration, Climate Displacement and Socio-Demographic Transformation in the Ephemeral Islands of Lower Assam’.
Notably, Ankita Bhuyan and Akankhya Riya Saikia were awarded Best Paper Presenter for their outstanding work, which was widely appreciated for its depth, clarity, and contemporary relevance.
The judges commended all the paper presenters ability to present complex social concepts in a structured and insightful manner. The achievement highlights the academic excellence and research-oriented approach of the Sociology Department.
The faculty members of the Department expressed their pride and congratulated the winner for bringing recognition to the department and the institution. The success also reflects the continuous efforts of the department in encouraging students to engage in research and academic activities.
