The Department of Economics has started functioning since 1930 as Civics & Economics. Lt. Mohesh Ghose was the founder Head of the Department. Later on, Imran Hussain Choudhury joined as the faculty. Honours classes were started from 1946. At present, the department has six permanent faculty members committed in teaching basics to advanced levels of understanding and also provide exposure to academic research to approximately a thousand of students studying in the department. The department is always contributing a lot in the pursuit of a better society. Since1930, the department has been producing some eminent persons of great repute, some of them are presently occupying prominent positions in the society.
