The Department of Chemistry, Jagannath Barooah University organized a CHEMTALK 2.O on 09/02/2026 on the topic “Gen Z and Mental Health”. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Dipjyoti Bora, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at JMCH, who provided valuable clinical and practical insights into the subject. The talk began with the felicitation of the invited resource person, Dr. Minakshi Phookan Hazarika, Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dr. Gautam Kalita, Dean of Science and Technology, followed by an introductory speech by Dr. Minakshi Phookan, Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities and a formal introduction of the resource person by Dr. Gitashree Darabdhara.
Dr. Dipjyoti Bora explained the meaning of Generation Z and highlighted how their lifestyle, environment, and digital exposure differ significantly from previous generations. He emphasized that while Gen Z is highly adaptive and technologically skilled, they are also more vulnerable to stress, anxiety, and emotional instability due to fast-paced social and academic pressures. He highlighted the impact of excessive screen time and comparison culture, and stressed the importance of balanced routines, physical activity, open communication, and timely professional help. He also discussed early warning signs of mental distress and encouraged students to the remove the stigma around seeking professional support. The session included an interactive question-answer segment where students asked thoughtful questions related to stress management, to which the resource person provided practical and evidence-based suggestions, making the segment highly engaging and beneficial. The program successfully highlighted the importance of mental health and encouraged a supportive and stigma free approach toward psychological well-being.
The talk ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Gitashree Darabdhara followed by a group photograph.
