The department started functioning in 1949 offering Intermediate Science (I. Sc.) course with Trailukyanath Goswami as founder teacher and Paresh Nath Sarma as B. Sc. demonstrator. Now it has grown to its full strength with 04 Associate Professors, 03 Assistant Professors, and 04 non-teaching staff serving the Department.
