Jagannath Barooah College which was established in 1930, had opened up among others, Civics and Economics as one of Its pioneer deportments. Till 1961 Political Science was continued to be a part of Economics. Considering the importance of independence of the discipline of Political Science, It was separated from Civics and Economics from the session 1961-1962 In this college.
Although Political Science was separated from Civics and Economics In 1961, the major course In this discipline was storied for the first time only in session 1966- 1967.The first batch of students having major in Political Science appeared In the final examination In 1970 and four students came out successfully. Now It is a full-fledged Department offering graduate programme both as major and core subjects under Dibrugarh University to which the college is affiliated.
BUILT UP AREA:
The Department of Political Science is in the possession of 20x18ft as staff room. The Department is exclusively allotted one classroom of 20x18 fl. for third year (major) classes. The Deptt of Political Science is also utilizing the vacant space under the staircase of PG building for Department Library cum Book Bank. Other dosses are, however held in the rooms being shared by the other Departments also. The Built up area of the Department is 717 square ft.
