The Department of Physics at the Jagannath Barooah College, Jorhat was established in 1949. The Department has a group of highly active and vibrant faculty members committed to deliver high quality research standards in pure and applied areas of physics and also trains students to become competent and motivated physicists. The research interests of the faculty members cover broad range of physics: Condensed Matter Physics , Lasers and Photonics, High Energy, Theoretical, Mathematical Physics and Astrophysics. The department has state-of-the-art nanoscience research laboratories and computational facilities. The department currently offers higher secondary, three year B.Sc. courses and Ph. D programs. Such programs have been assisted by sophisticated Higher Secondary and B.Sc. level laboratories. The total seat capacity of Physics (Major) course is 50.
