The Department of Geology was established in 1977 and erstwhile it started with Geology pass course. Later, in 1981, the department introduced geology in higher secondary courses after getting the required permission. At first, two faculty members namely Mukut Bora, (Founder Head) and S.K Bhagawati were associated with the establishment of the department. The full-fledged B.Sc. major Geology course was introduced in the department from 1984 onwards and faculty strength also increased.   Presently, FYUGP (NEP 2020), FYIPGP (NEP 2020), Two Years PG Program (NEP 2020) and Two Years PG Program Choice Base Credit System (CBCS) is continuing in the department.
