A friendly T20 cricket match between DKD College Teachers’ XI and Jagannath Barooah University (JBU) Teachers’ XI was held at the DKD College Playground, Dergaon on March 1, 2026, in a spirit of sportsmanship and mutual camaraderie, continuing the proud legacy of this teachers’ cricket fixture that has been played since the 1960s.
Batting first, JBU Teachers’ XI scored 143/7 in 20 overs, with Prasanta Das and Jayur Tisso contributing 31 runs each. Late contributions from Sarat Konwar (11)* and Sandeep S. Regan (12)* helped the team reach a competitive total. For DKD College, Mrinal Saikia delivered an impressive bowling performance, claiming three wickets.
In reply, DKD College Teachers’ XI successfully chased the target, scoring 148/6 in 17.5 overs. Jayanta Sonowal played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 56 runs, supported by RajSekhar Medhi (24), ensuring victory for his team.
The bowlers of JBU Teachers’ XI displayed commendable determination while defending the total. Prasanta Das and Jayur Tisso provided early breakthroughs, while Chaitradhar Taye delivered an impressive spell picking up two crucial wickets. Madhurjya Handique also contributed with a key dismissal, ensuring regular wicket fall and keeping the contest competitive until the closing overs.
Jayanta Sonowal was adjudged Man of the Match as well as Best Batsman, while Mrinal Saikia received the Best Bowler award. The Best Fielder award was presented to Subhashish Sharma.
Prior to the match, Mr. Subhasish Sarmah, President of the Teachers’ Unit, Jagannath Barooah University, and Dr. Mrinal Nath, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, were felicitated in recognition of their contributions and encouragement towards academic and extracurricular activities.
