Jagannath Barooah University witnessed a vibrant and inspiring academic engagement as the Department of Assamese organized a day-long inspirational visit for the students of the 289 No  Kushum Jogania Primary School under the “Bandhu Vidyalaya” (Partner School) initiative on 21st February,2026. . The programme aimed to introduce young learners to the environment of higher education and encourage academic curiosity from an early stage.

More than one hundred students, accompanied by their Headteacher, State Award recipient Anil Chandra Hazarika, and other faculty members, participated in the visit. Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed at the university’s main gate by students of the Department of Assamese and escorted to the Guna Gobinda Dutta Auditorium.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Salim Ali Ahmed, Associate Professor of the Department of Assamese, presented a brief overview of the institution’s distinguished 95-year legacy and introduced the visiting students to the various academic departments, facilities, and opportunities available at the university.

Academic Exposure Across Departments

As part of the educational tour, the students visited several departments and learning facilities:

Geography Department: Dr. Minakshi Phukan Hazarika, Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mr.  Gaurab Borthakur, and other faculty members introduced students to basic geographical concepts, modern educational tools, and Geographic Information System (GIS) technology.

Krishna Kanta Handiqui Central Library: Assistant Librarian Rajiv Saikia and Political Science Faculty Captain Sandeep Sankar Regan guided the students through the library, familiarizing them with its diverse sections, learning resources, and reading culture.

Science Departments: In the Chemistry and Biotechnology laboratories, Dr. Bhupen Kumar Baruah, Dr. Anirban Garg, and Dr. Sourav Kumar Das demonstrated scientific instruments and conducted interactive experiments, creating great enthusiasm among the young participants.

Cultural Programme

In the afternoon, a colourful cultural programme was organized at the university conference hall. The visiting students showcased their talents through performances of Sattriya dance, Bihu dance, Dehbichar Geet, and dances based on the songs of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala. They also presented thematic performances depicting the life of Lachit Borphukan and a dramatic portrayal inspired by the life and teachings of Srimanta Sankardev. The performances added cultural richness and created a lively atmosphere on campus.

The cultural programme was formally inaugurated by the Academic Registrar of the University, Dr. Surajit Sharma. Among the distinguished attendees were Dr. Minakshi Phukan Hazarika, Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities,Mr.  Subhasish Sarmah, Dean of Students' Affairs and other faculty members, researchers, and students.

Felicitation and Conclusion

Prior to the cultural event, the Department of Assamese felicitated the visiting school teachers along with Pallabi Konwar Gogoi, Resource Person of the North-West Education Block, and Tridib Baruah, President of the Jorhat District Primary Teachers’ Association, in recognition of their contributions to school education.

The programme was moderated by Swamim Nasrin, Head of the Department of Assamese, who highlighted that the academic friendship between the university and the partner school has been growing steadily since 2021. She noted that students associated with the Department of Assamese, the National Service Scheme (NSS), and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan regularly conduct awareness programmes and academic outreach activities at the school.

Expressing optimism, she stated that such initiatives play a significant role in strengthening intellectual engagement, social awareness, and the bond between higher educational institutions and the younger generation.

The programme concluded on a hopeful note, reaffirming the university’s commitment to community outreach and holistic educational development.
