A one-day workshop titled “From Vibration to Vitality: The Transformative Power of Musical Sounds on Human Well-being” was successfully organized at the Jagannath Barooah University on 6th February. 2026 .  The workshop was jointly organized by the Department of English and the Department of Philosophy.

The programme began with floral tributes paid to the late Zubeen Garg, cultural icon of Assam.  Prof. Jyoti Prasad Saikia, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, J.B. University, inaugurated the programme and emphasized the therapeutic, psychological and philosophical dimensions of musical sounds in his opening address. Dr Utpal Jyoti Mahanta, Registrar of J.B. University, also spoke on the occasion, emphasizing the importance of harmony and healing in an increasingly stressful world.

The workshop featured Anubhuti Goswami, Mumbai based Indian classical vocalist, music therapist, sound healer, and Emon Seuj Goswami, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and sound healer associated with the Mumbai film industry. They were accompanied by senior artiste Ranjit Bora on the guitar. The artistes combined guided meditation to the accompaniment of soothing sounds with insightful discussions on human well-being, coherence and the science of sound vibrations. The resource persons introduced various musical instruments used in music therapy and demonstrated how sound frequencies influence mental, emotional and physical health. The session concluded with an engaging interactive discussion, where participants actively shared experiences and posed questions to the speakers.

The programme was anchored by Dr Deepanjali Baruah, Associate Professor, Department of English and coordinator of the workshop, Dr.  Malaya Borah, Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy and joint coordinator, formally introduced the resource persons and outlined their contributions to the emerging field of music therapy. The workshop was attended by a large gathering of registered students, faculty members and participants from outside the university.  The workshop was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Simi Bora, Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, speakers, organizers, sponsors and participants for making the event a meaningful and enriching experience. The event was sponsored by Punjab National Bank.
