The Department of Geography, Jagannath Barooah University, Jorhat, successfully organized an interactive session on “Career Prospects in Geography” on 5th February 2026, with Dr. Ankita Medhi, Assistant Professor, Miranda House, University of Delhi, as the Resource Person. Dr. Medhi, a distinguished alumna of Jagannath Barooah College, shared her academic and professional experiences with the students.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students of the department. Dr. Medhi provided valuable insights into the diverse academic, research, and professional opportunities available in the field of geography. She elaborated on emerging and interdisciplinary areas such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS), urban studies, environmental planning, and spatial analysis, highlighting their growing relevance in both academic and applied domains.

Sharing her inspiring academic journey, Dr. Medhi encouraged students to pursue higher studies, research-oriented careers, and skill-based learning to remain competitive in the evolving job market. She also emphasized the importance of continuous learning, practical exposure, and interdisciplinary approaches in shaping a successful career in geography.

An interactive question-answer session enabled students to clarify their doubts regarding career planning, research avenues, and professional pathways. The session proved to be highly informative and motivating, leaving the participants better informed, confident, and inspired to plan their future careers in geography.
