Jagannath Barooah University organized a “Run for SWADESHI” programme on 12th January, 2026, on the auspicious occasion of the 164th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, observed as National Youth Day. The event was aimed at motivating students and youth to embrace the ideals of self-reliance, patriotism, discipline, and national service as preached by Swami Vivekananda.
The programme witnessed active and enthusiastic participation from students and NCC cadets of the University, who joined the run with great energy and patriotic spirit.The event was formally flagged off by the Registrar of the University, Dr. Utpal Jyoti Mahanta, who also addressed the gathering. In his speech, Dr. Mahanta highlighted the continuing relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings in shaping responsible, disciplined, and socially committed youth for nation-building. He emphasized the importance of the SWADESHI spirit in promoting indigenous values and self-sufficiency.Several distinguished faculty members and staff members participated in the programme, including:

Their presence added significance to the event and served as an inspiration for students to actively engage in such meaningful initiatives.
The entire programme was efficiently coordinated by Capt. Sandeep Sankar Regan, Associate NCC Officer (ANO) of Jagannath Barooah University. Under his leadership, the event was conducted smoothly, ensuring proper discipline, safety, and a strong sense of purpose.The “Run for SWADESHI” programme successfully created awareness among the students about the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and reinforced the importance of youth participation in nation-building activities.
