A lecture programme on "How Performative Acts of Erinnerungskultur (Holocaust Memory) Shape Collective Identity and National Consciousness in the German Public Sphere" was organized on December 19, 2025 by the Department of History, Jagannath Barooah University. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Jyoti Prasad Saikia, Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath Barooah University, In his inaugural address, Dr. Saikia remarked that Holocaust should serve as an example of humanity and moral education for future generations. Thereafter, Dr. Tonmoyee Rani Neog, a Research Associate from the Göttingen University delivered thoughtful lecture on the Jewish Holocaust, highlighting the culture of remembrance in Germany and the challenges this culture faces in contemporary times. She said that the tragic history of Holocaust evokes a sense of responsibility, empathy, human rights awareness and value of cooperation in the public mind, providing lessons to remain vigilant and conscious against extremist nationalist forces. Dr. Surajit Sharma, the Academic Registrar of the University, was present at the programme and shared his views on the contemporary relevance of the culture of remembrance. The insightful programme was attended by the faculty members from the various departments, research scholars and students. The vote of thanks was offered by Pankaj Goswami, Head of the Department of History.
