The Society for English Studies, Department of English (SES), Jagannath Barooah College (Autonomous), Jorhat, organized a Workshop on Translation on April 5, 2025, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students alike.

Dr. Deepanjali Baruah, President of the SES, welcomed the attendees and set the tone for the event. The workshop was formally inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. Utpal Jyoti Mahanta, The Resource Person, Ms. Anindita Kar, Assistant Professor in English at Jagiroad College who is currently involved in several translation projects involving Bengali, Assamese and English texts, was felicitated and presented with a memento as a token of appreciation.

The inaugural session featured speeches by the Vice Principal, Dr. Surajit Sharma, and the Head of the Department of English, Dr. Nandini Choudhury Bora. Both emphasized the importance of translation as a means of bridging linguistic and cultural gaps. They remarked on the role of English as a vital medium for accessing knowledge across languages and highlighted the significance of translation in a linguistically diverse country like India.

Ms. Anindita Kar, in her address, reflected on her own Bengali-Assamese background and discussed the cultural intersections that arise in the act of translation. She spoke insightfully about the role of translation in navigating complex cultural landscapes and its broader relevance in literature and academia.

Her session was followed by a lively interactive segment, during which participants posed thoughtful questions and engaged deeply with the ideas presented. The interactive discussion was followed by a workshop, where attendees were given the opportunity to participate in hands-on translation exercises.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of the organizers, dignitaries, and participants whose contributions ensured the success of the workshop.
