The Department of Geology marked an important step forward on Friday, 28 February, 2026 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Jagannath Barooah University and the Geological Survey of India. The MoU signing ceremony was held at the office of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the university.
The delegation from GSI included Shri Ashish Kumar Nath, Deputy Director General; Shri Subhasis Roychaudhuri, Director, Technical Co-ordination Division; and Shri Mousam Kashyap, Senior Geologist. They were welcomed by the Jagannath Barooah University administration. The MoU was formally signed, on behalf of the Geological Survey of India, by Shri Ashish Kumar Nath, Deputy Director General, GSI, and by the Registrar of the university, Dr. Utpal Jyoti Mahanta in the presence of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jyoti Prasad Saikia along with university officials, faculty members and representatives from GSI.
The agreement is expected to open new opportunities for students and researchers of the Department of Geology, particularly in areas related to field exposure, internships and research support through the Geological Survey of India. Following the MoU signing programme, a lecture session was organised for the students, where members of the GSI delegation shared their experiences and information related to geological work and research in India.
