The Department of Computer Science of J.B.College was formally inaugurated by the Honorable Director of Higher Education, Dr H. K. Sahoo, on 19th January 2004 at an inauguration Ceremony organized at the Collage seminar hall.

After getting necessary permission from the Dibrugarh University, the Department started a One Year Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA) course, under Dibrugarh University, commencing from the date of its inauguration, i.e. 19th of January 2004, and a Three year (6-Semester) Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) course, with the infrastructure provided by the NEC, Shillong.

The Department is conducting Computer Science as a core subject in B.Sc. 1st, 2nd and 3rd years in four different combinations.
