The Department of Sanskrit, J.B. College was established on 10^th October’1930. It is a matter of pride for the department of Sanskrit that the founder Principal of J. B. College, Jorhat Prof. Krishna Kanta Handique, Renowned Orientalist, distinguished Scholar & academician and the founder secretary Prof. Tulsi Narayan Sarma both were the personalities behind this department. The main goals of this department are:

• To impart education and train up students in different areas of Sanskrit.
• To make awareness of importance of Sanskrit learning among the students community and general people.

       The Department has been constantly engaged in popularizing and propagating Sanskrit studies. The department currently offers Higher Secondary course and three year BA in Sanskrit (Honours) courses.
