About FIP Lecture Series:
The Department of Physics, Jagannath Barooah College, in association with the Physics Society of J. B. College, started a lecture series named Frontiers in Physics (FIP) in 2014. The primary aim of the FIP series is to bring renowned young scientists to offer lectures in J. B. College on exciting recent developments in physics to foster scientific temperament in our society. This is the 4th lecture of the FIP series.
About the speaker:
Dr. Abhijit Roy is a DST-Inspire Faculty in the Department of Physics, IISc Bangalore since 2017. At IISc Bangalore, Dr. Roy is working on several recently evolving technologies such as artificial soft electronic skin and microelectromechanical engineering-based sensors and actuators. Dr. Roy completed his Ph.D. from the Department of Chemical Engineering IIT Kanpur with expertise in soft materials for optical technologies. Dr. Roy received exposers of Nanotechnologies and modern bioelectronics, a part of medical technology through the two master’s degrees namely Masters in Nanoscience and Technology and M. Tech in Bioelectronics from Tezpur University, Assam, India in the years 2009 and 2011, respectively. Dr. Roy completed his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Gauhati University, Assam, India in the year 2007. Besides having more than a dozen of research publications, Dr. Roy has filed nine patents including one US patent and eight Indian patents. Dr. Roy received the INAE-Innovative Ph.D. thesis award from the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) in the year 2018 and was selected as a member of INAE, India. Dr. Roy has also received the Gandhian Young Technology Innovation Award (BIRAC-SRISTI), for making a “Tabletop Digital Microscope” in the year 2016.
