Celebration of World Environment Day

In promoting awareness among students and the society at large, World Environment Day was celebrated by Dept of Geography, JB College (Autonomous) on 5th June with a virtual talk program and a quiz. In this programme, the welcome address was given by the Principal of our College, Dr Bimal Barah. The talk was delivered by Dr Dhruva Jyoti Das, Head, Forest Ecology and Climate Change Division from Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat. He started by paying homage to environment crusaders like Sunderlal Bahuguana, RK Pachauri and others. He talked about how global climate change is occurring as a result of human activities giving examples from all over the world. His talk was very informative and he presented with maps supported by most recent data. He stressed on the theme of 2021 “Ecological Restoration” and showed images of our lost resources and how we can restore them. The students as well as faculties present benefitted tremendously from his delivery. Dr Das was introduced to the audience by Head, Dept of Geography, Dr Mrinal Nath.

The quiz was conducted by Sadiqur Rahman, Bijoy Ghosh and Dudul Boruah, all faculties from the Dept of Geography, J B College (Autonomous). There were a total of 16 teams in the quiz competition from undergraduate to post graduate students. The question answer session was moderated by Madhurjya Milli and the entire program was conducted by Dr Minakshi Phookan Hazarika. Nilave Bhuyan, Head, Dept of Zoology co-ordinated the programme with Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat. The vote of thanks was given by Shamolee Sarmah.
